ACT TOO programmes derive from Dubai’s first experimental theatre project: STAR TOO, founded by long-term residents of the U.A.E. eager to develop a laboratory style of theatre, exploring avant-gardist ideas at grassroots level. Multi-cultural founding members of the collective in 2010 included dancers, visual artists, IT specialists, and post-graduates of university theatre studies.

In parallel with STAR TOO’s interdisciplinary approach to theatre making, ACT TOO courses maintain a progressive, diverse and inclusionary philosophy towards course content. Acting classes, in particular, adopt a wide range of methods, respecting techniques rooted in the Stanislavski system as well as the pedagogical values of exercises devised by the likes of Boal, Grotowski, and Lecoq.
