Join us to discover what you can do with simple objects + imagination.
In this free workshop for adults 18 + @ Sikka Art & Design Festival 5 March 2023 4pm-5:30pm, participants are given abstract tools to create a short scene loosely inspired by a 19th century novel by Zola +:
· Samplings of object-use + movement
· Selected props + character descriptions
· Scenario to develop/adaptation (+ costumes)
This theatre activity invites participants of all levels on a journey to discover imaginative ways to dramatize a flashback - a device more ordinarily found in prose or film. Zola’s Belly of Paris is only used as an inspiration to trigger ideas, as it offers powerful flashbacks with high visual potential. The challenge in this exercise is to use only minimalist tools or objects (provided), most of which existed in the 19th century, and to deploy good teamwork.
No need to read a novel ;) - players are given a simple pitch + all materials are provided; you only need to bring your imagination + preferably comfy attire :)
